Consulting

Independent consulting on applied cryptography, security architecture, and navigation/estimation for space, aerospace, and autonomous systems.

I take on a limited number of independent consulting engagements as an applied cryptography consultant and security architecture advisor for space, aerospace, and autonomous systems — drawing on hands-on experience with secure communications in bandwidth-constrained systems, satellite and ground-segment security architecture, and applied estimation and controls for autonomous vehicles.

If you’re facing a hard problem in one of these areas and want an outside expert to work it with you, I’d like to hear about it.

Where I can help

  1. Applied cryptography for constrained systems.
Designing and reviewing cryptographic schemes for low-bandwidth, real-time, and resource-constrained links, where standard assumptions (like abundant bandwidth or loosely-coupled time) don't hold.
  2. Security architecture for space, ground, and cloud systems.
End-to-end security strategy, key management, credential provisioning, and threat modeling for satellite security architecture across payload, ground segment, and cloud infrastructure.
  3. Security of autonomous systems.
Threat modeling and application design for security resilience in autonomous and robotic systems.
  4. Navigation, estimation, and controls for aerospace and autonomous systems.
Guidance, navigation, and control (GNC), dynamics, estimation, and precision orbit/pointing problems drawn from experience across satellites, rockets, drones, and autonomous vehicles.
  5. Technical advisory, expert witness, and expert review.
Short-form technical reviews, aerospace security expert witness testimony, second opinions, and advisory calls — useful for due diligence, standards discussions, legal issues, or checking a design before you commit to it.

Scope and independence

I currently hold a full-time role related to GNSS security, so any consulting I take on is structured to respect that position:

  • Engagements are independent work on my own time, using none of my employer’s property, systems, confidential information, proprietary information, or trade secrets.
  • I do not accept engagements that compete with my employer or otherwise create a conflict (except with permission from my employer).
  • I speak only for myself in a consulting capacity.
  • Availability is limited and scoped to make sure outside work never interferes with my day job.

Get in touch

Send a short description of the problem, your timeline, and what kind of engagement you’re picturing (a single call, a short review, an ongoing advisory relationship, etc.), and I’ll get back to you.
